It’s the graveyard shift at the Dubai Airport and we are almost to Uganda.

After finishing packing in New York, we flew 8 hours for a brief 55-minute vacation in the Milan airport. We then flew here to the United Arab Emirates. (Our in-flight movie count is now up 7).

Unfortunately, our layover is only for the night, and due to Ramadan most things are closed in the city. Undeterred, we went off to see the Burj Khalifa and the Dubai Mall and had an authentic Arabian dinner at 1am. The city is spectacular at night with every building brightly adorned with thousands of lights. It’s quite a different culture and it feels like great preparation for whatever we may encounter in Kampala.
